Wonderful original sepia-colour-printed lithograph by A. Hoen & Co. of Baltimore, after a drawing by A.H. Campbell, for the General Report Plate 7 of the United States Expedition and Surveys of the 32nd parallel of California, published in Washington c1857. This view was recorded during the 1853-1854 expedition of the United States Pacific Railroad Survey. Under the direction of the Secretary of War to find the most practicable and economical route for a railroad from the Mississippi River to the Pacific Ocean, and under the command of Lieutenant R.S. Williamson, this survey through the 32nd parallel and California was of the most practical route for the railroad through California.

This scene is an important topographical record of a historic view of the Peloncillo Range, at the lowest part of the Continental Divide that runs from Alaska to southern Mexico. This region is a sanctuary and a corridor for many rare, threatened and endangered species of both flora and fauna. Its boundaries are the conjunction of Arizona and New Mexico boundary, the Mexico boundary with the United States, and the Sonora and Chihuahua border in Mexico.
