Blackpool, seaside resort scene by W.H. Bartlett. Finden c1840

by Bartlett, William

Lovely antique print of Blackpool with elegant resort buildings along the waterfront, and people relaxing on the headland, and walking along the edge of the water below.

Original steel engraving by by one of the finest English topographical artists and engravers James Charles Armytage (1802-1897) from a drawing on the spot by one of the foremost illustrators of topography of his time, William Henry Bartlett (1809-1854), for "The Ports, Harbours, Watering-Places and Coast Scenery of Great Britain", for William Finden (1787-1852), and Edward Finden (1791-1857). London: Published for the Proprietors by George Virtue circa 1840.

The page is rather age-discoloured, but the fine later hand-colour enhances the engraving sufficiently to detract from the condition. Price has nevertheless been reduced. Approximate measurement: image, 122 x 180mm (4.3/4 x 7.1/8 inches), and page, 203 x 275mm (8 x 10.7/8 inches).
