Original steel engraving by Arthur Willmore, after a drawing by prominent English landscape artist and engraver John Skinner Prout (1806-1876) for Australia Illustrated by Edwin Carton Booth. Published in London circa 1874 by Virtue and Company (later hand-colour).

Skinner Prout was born in Plymouth on 19 December 1805. On 14 December 1840 he arrived in Sydney with his wife, seven children.. and a complete lithographic printing press. In early 1841 he started producing lithographs of his drawings of Sydney. In January 1844 Prout moved to Hobart and drew andl lithographed Hobart and the surrounding area. During his time in Australia he helped organize and went with numerous sketching trips around New South Wales, Victoria and Tasmania. He was one of the principal artists for Australia Illustrated.

This engraving is in fine condition, with wide margins as issued. Page size is 21 x 27cm (8.1/4 x 10.5/8). Image: 13 x 19cm (4 3/4 x 8 1/8 inches).
