Horse-riding Lesson. Be good! "Tiens-toi bien!" Brissaud c1914

by Brissaud, Pierre

Tiens-toi bien! (Be Good!)  Charming fashion print c1914. Robe d'été de Chéruit. Lovely Summer Dress by Cheruit.

Original hand-coloured pochoir circa 1914 by fashion artist Pierre Brissaud for the exclusive fashion periodical Gazette du Bon Ton, published between 1912 to 1925 to illustrate the latest fashions by prominent French designers - shown worn in an appropriate setting.

Gazette du Bon Ton was published by Lucien Vogel in Paris between 1912 and 1925, and distributed by Condé Nast. Distributed in the U.S. as Gazette du Bon Genre, both titles translate roughly as Journal of Good Style. Pochoir, French for stencil, has always been used for these delightful little fashion illustrations, in recognition of the distinctive style by the French fashion illustrators. A separate stencil was cut for each application of watercolour.

Size of page 24 x 19cm or 9.5 x 7.5 inches.
