Bonne Chasse! Mother and Children wave goodbye c1913.

by Brissaud, Pierre

Gazette du Bon Ton hand-coloured antique fashion print. A fashionably-dressed lady with her children, waving goodbye from the gate.

Original hand-coloured pochoir by Pierre Brissaud (1885-1964) for La Gazette du Bon Ton (Gazette of Good Style), published in Paris c1913 to illustrate the latest superior fashion, worn in an approriate situation. Brissaud was one of four regular contributors for this exclusive periodical, and this pochoir provides a charming fashion narrative of the period. The finest fashion illustrators of the day portrayed the latest fashions by prominent French designers in this Gazette.

Gazette de Bon Ton was published by Lucien Vogel in Paris between 1912 and 1925 (with a break during World War I), and distributed by Condé Nast. The portrayal of fashion by the pochoir method was perfected by skilful artists in France, and pochoir, the French word for stencil, has been adopted worldwide since that time. Pochoir was a labour-intensive process, with a separate stencil cut for each successive application of watercolour.
