The Visit. "La Visite." Gazette du Bon Ton by Brissaud c1920

by Brissaud, Pierre

Lady and young girls. 1920s fashion antique print.

Robe d'apres-midi et robes d'enfants de Lanvin. Afternoon dress and little girls' dress by eminent Parisian designer, Jeanne Lanvin. (I love the emroidered sleeves on the little girls dresses.. and the hats!)

Original hand-coloured pochoir by Pierre Brissaud (1885-1964) for La Gazette du Bon Ton (Gazette of Good Style), published in Paris to illustrate the latest superior fashion circa 1920, worn in an appropriate situation.

Pochoir, the French word for stencil, was the labour-intensive method of illustration by hand-colouring with gouache and watercolour, through separate stencils for each colour. The finest illustrators of the day showed fashions by prominent French designers in Gazette du Bon Ton, published by Lucien Vogel in Paris between 1912 and 1925 (except during World War I).
