Dietterlin’s Book of Architecture illustrated wall and ceiling panels, cornices, doors, windows and all sorts of architectural ornaments. Published in Nuremberg circa 1598-99 his ideas and design had considerable influence on architects and builders in Northern Europe through the 17th and 18th centuries.
In Liège, between 1862 and 1866, Charles Claesen published a magnificent later edition of Dietterlin’s Nürnberg Book of Architecture. Printed on thick paper with an ivory-coloured background, this beautiful engraving has later superb gouache hand-colour. Page size: 42 x 30 cm(16.5 x 11.75 inches).
