Original colour-printed lithograph by Amanda Almira Newton - a scientifically accurate, wonderfully graphic illustration for the Yearbook of the United States Department of Agriculture, published by A. Hoen & Co. in Baltimore. A.A. Newton was one of the regular artists for the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Division of Pomology.

Newton was a skilled botanical artist who was responsible for over a thousand watercolours of fruit for the USDA Watercolour Collection - recording fruit and vegetable varieties grown in America around the turn of the 20th century, for lithographs to illustrate USDA bulletins, yearbooks, and other printed publications that were distributed to growers and gardeners across America. Almira was a grand-daughter of the first commissioner of the USDA, Isaac Newton, who died when Amanda was a child.
