London. People's Palace for East London to be erected in Mile End Road engraving c1886

by Watkins, F.

Proposed Grand Architecture of Victorian times in London - complete with minarets..

Original wood engraving by F. Watkins for The London Illustrated News, published on June 26, 1886 (with later hand-colour) .

This is obviously only a partial view. This large engraving has an external measurement of 505 x 340mm (19.7/8" x 13.3/8 inches). Double page size is 55 x 40cm (21.5/8 x 15.3/4 inches). The external edges have a few slight tears (expertly repaired), which do not intrude on the image. As the text on the rear shows through this fine paper, it will need to have a backing board of a dark colour to minimize this when framing.
