Inigo Jones architecture. The Mansion called Banqueting House, c1727

by Beeverell, James

Classical English Architecture by Inigo Jones. Engraved c1727.

This is the only still-standing part of Inigo Jones's architecture for the Royal Palace, Whitehall. The main London royal residence from 1530 to 1698, this palace with over 1,500 rooms was the largest palace in Europe when, except for the Banqueting House, it was destroyed in the great fire of London in 1698.

Original copperplate engraving by the famous engraver and cartographer Pierre Van Der Aa (1659-1733) for "Estates of Great Britain and Ireland" published by James Beeverell in London circa 1727. This lovely old engraving has faded hand-colour, which certainly adds to its appealing quality.

The size is 5.5 x 7 inches or 14 x 18cm, with vertical folds for publication in a pocket-sized edition.
This engraving is currently mounted between 'antique white' conservation boards and cellophaned for protection. External mounted size is 29 x 33cm (11.5 x 13 inches).
