Original colour-printed lithograph by Vincent Brooks, Day & Son, for Samuel Sidney’s The Book of the Horse printed by Cassell, Petter, Galpin & Co of London, Paris and New York circa 1874.

At the end of the 19th century, the quality of chromolithographic illustrations was exceptional. The lithographs for Cassells Book of the Horse are some of the finest horse illustrations ever.

Image measures approximately 17 x 22cm (6 ¾ x 8 ¾ inches). Page size is 21 x 27cm (8 ¼ x 10 5/8 inches). There is small damage to the lower left corner of the page, but it would not show when framed. There is also a faint diagonal bend in the margin at the right.
