Superb antique print of endangered Rhinoceros Sondaicus, now only found in Java - previously found from Thailand through Malaysian and the islands of Java and Sumatra (Indonesia).

Original hand-coloured lithograph of Rhinoceros Sondaicus by Josef Smit from a drawing by Josef Wolf for P.L. Sclater's "On the Rhinoceroses Now or Lately Living in the Society's Menagerie" (the Zoological Society's Menagerie in London), published in London circa 1876.

English lawyer and zoologist, Philip Lutley Slater, F.R.S., F.R.G.S., F.Z.S., F.L.S. (1829-1913) was Secretary of the Zoological Society of London for 42 years from 1860 to 1902. He is best known for identifying the main zoogeographic regions of the world in 1858. An expert in ornithology, he was founder and editor of The Ibis, the journal of the British Ornithologists' Union.
