Original (hand-coloured) wood engraving from a sketch by Alice B. Woodward for the English edition of a zoological encyclopedia “The Royal Natural History” by Richard Lydekker B.A., F.G.S., F.Z.S., Etc. (sic.). Illustrirtes Tierleben by Alfred Edmund Brehm (1829-1884) was first published in Leipzig between 1864 and 1869, and was republished in Austria circa 1896 as Brehm’s Tierleben (Life of Animals). This antique print was published circa 1894 by Frederick Warne and Company of London & New York for the English edition, The Royal Natural History.

This great engraving is mounted between 'antique white' conservation matt boards and is covered with cellophane for protection, ready for framing. The actual image measures 140 x125mm (5.5 x 5 inches).
