Alligator antique print c1817. Or Crocodile, some might call this fabulous-looking reptile. He almost seems to be smiling.

Original hand-coloured copperplate engraving, drawn and engraved by “animal painter, draughtsman, and engraver in natural history” Frederick Polydore Nodder for “The Zoological Miscellany; being descriptions of new or interesting animals, by William Elford Leach, M.D., F.L.S., and W.S.” illustrated with coloured figures, drawn from nature by F.P. Nodder, and published in London circa 1817. F.P. Nodder was succeeded in zoological illustration and engraving by his equally talented son, Richard Polydore Nodder, and his wife Elizabeth Nodder took over publication.
