Original hand-coloured French antique print of Kangaroo c1840.

A fine original hand-coloured copperplate engraving from a series engraved by Pauquet, Madame Thorel, Massard, Oudet, LeBrun, LeGrand and Guyard after the drawings by Meunier, Jean-Gabriel Pretre, Edouard Travies and Chazal, published in Paris circa 1840 by Pourrat Brothers for "Suites a Buffon" by Bernard Germain Etienne de la Ville sur Illon, Comte de Lacepede (1756-1825) who worked with Buffon and as well as finishing publication after Buffon's death, updated his most comprehensive 18th century French colourplate series "Histoire Naturelle Generale et Particuliere avec la description du cabinet du roi" (Natural History, General and Particular), published between 1765 and 1780 by Georg-Louis Leclerc, Comte de Buffon (1707-1788).

Size is 24 x 15cm (9.5 x 6 inches).This fine engraving has good contemporary colour (from the time of publication).
