Ancient maps and town plans were drawn and engraved by Sidney Hall for Butler's Atlas of Ancient Geography, published in London circa 1836 by Longman & Co.

Dr Samuel Butler (1774-1839) was bishop of Lichfield and Coventry when he compiled the small atlas that was intended for school use. It was popular and was reissued many times.

The map has slight soiling, mainly on centre vertical fold, but is otherwise in good condition. Page size: 230 x 285mm (9 x 11 1/4 inches), with central fold to accommodate publication in an atlas half the size of the map.
