by Wilkinson, Robert

Estates of the Church, The Dutchy of Tuscany, &c. Drawn from the best Authorities.

Centred on Perugia, this is a superb map with contemporary hand-colour (evidenced by oxidation of the colour through to the rear of the map). Finely detailed original hand-coloured copperplate-engraved map byThomas Conder, published circa 1794 by Robert Wilkinson for his General Atlas of the World.

obert Wilkinson (c1752-1825) flourished as a map-maker from 1785, and was known for the quality and decorativeness of his maps. He acquired the engraved plates from the estate of map publisher John Bowles, and Wilkinson achieved renown by updating and reissuing the plates for his General Atlas, which he re-issued in 1802 and 1809.

A great reminder of a wonderful vacation? The paper is slightly age-discoloured, with soiling. The map has a distinct platemark and wide margins all round. Page size is 340 x 268mm (13 3/8 x 10 1/2 inches). Map to border measures 250 x 185mm (9 7/8 x 7 1/4 inches).
