Original copperplate engraved map of the area around Rome for the small pocket atlas on ancient geography, Smalcaldensis Geographia Antiqua by Christoph Cellarius. This rare little atlas was published in London c1755, with editorial written by Samuel Patrick LL.D.

Christoph Cellarius (1638-1707), also known as Christopher Keller, was a German theologian, philosopher, historian and geographer, who was a Professor at the Universtiy of Halle in Germany. His most important work was Universal History Divided into an Ancient, Medieval, and New Period, published towards the end of the 17th century.

This little map is in excellent condition with great clarity of engraving and fine later hand-colour. The page size is approximately 20 x 24cm (8 x 13 5/8 inches). The size of the map to border is 15.5 x 21cm (6 1/8 x 8 1/4 inches), with 3 faint vertical folds for small pocket atlas.
