by Reichard, Christian Gottlieb Theophil

Antique map of Asia Minor and adjacent countries containing the retreat of the 10,000 Greeks.

Cyrus the Younger, son of Darius II of Persia and Parysatis, was a Persian prince and general (and contemporary of Plato). His birth date is unknown, but he died in 401 BC after a failed battle to oust his brother, Artaxerxes II, from the Persian throne. The history of Cyrus and of the retreat of the 10,000 Greeks is told by Greek professional soldier and writer, Xenophon in his most famous book, 'Anabasis', his record of the entire expedition of Cyrus against the Persians and the Greek mercenaries' journey home.

Original map engraved by German historian, geographer and cartographer, Christian Gottlieb Theophil Reichard’s to show this famous retreat of the Greeks. Reichard was noted for his maps on ancient history, published in Nuremberg circa 1819 by D. Campio.
