Interesting little antique map of East Indies c1856, from India in the west, to Celebes and Timor in the east, and Shang-hae in the north.

Engraved by the omnigraph by Francis Paul Becker & Company, Patentees circa 1856 with contemporary hand colour (from the time of publication) outlining the coastline of the countries and differentiating adjoining countries. Becker spent many years on his invention of the omnigraph which allowed inserting names in an engraved plate without the necessity of placing each individual letter, thus saving much time in creating the plate for the printing of the map.

This map is in good condition except for slight damage along the edge at the base. To the border measures 245 x 195mm (9 5/8 x 7 5/8 inches). Page size is 245 x 217mm (9 5/8 x 8 1/2 inches).
