Imperial China New Description. Rare small antique map of Chinese Empire by Philipp Cluver, c1666.

Original copperplate engraved map published in Amsterdam circa 1661 by Louis and Daniel Elzeviris for the second edition of Cluver's Introductionis in Universam Geographicam (Introduction to Geography of the Universe) by Philippi Cluverii (1580-1622). This map is based on the map by Petrus Bertius (1565-1629) for his Breviarium Orbis Terrarum atlas, published 32 years earlier, in 1629.

This wonderful little map has later hand colour highlighting the geography. Printed on very fine paper, it is in very good condition considering its age. Page size is 130 x 140mm (5 1/8 x 5 1/2 inches). With narrow margin at base, to the map border measures 120 x 124mm (4 3/4 x 4 7/8 inches).
